The New CATALYS® Precision Cataract Laser System becomes available in Orlando
The phrase “state-of-the-art” gets thrown around a lot these days, but what does it mean? More importantly, what does it mean for you?
In the case of cataract laser surgery, it means comfort. It means safety. It means results for patients suffering from cataracts.
Dr. Haas will be among the the few utilizing true state-of-the-art technology with the CATALYS® Precision Laser System, a revolutionary system that allows a level of precision never before possible in cataract laser surgery in Orlando.
What is the CATALYS® Precision Laser System?
The system, named one of the top 100 technological innovations in the world in 2012, is engineered for new levels of precision, which will enable experienced hands like those of Dr. Haas to reach new levels of comfort in cataracts procedures. It works in two phases.
Phase one: LIQUID OPTICS interface
The liquid optics interface “docks” patients to the system to stabilize the eye. By doing so, the dock minimizes the rise in pressure and scleral contact, making the procedure gentler than ever.
The stabilization also allows clearer optics, making the imaging used to map the procedure much more effective, resulting in more precise laser delivery.

Phase two: INTEGRAL GUIDANCE System
Once you’re comfortable and the docking system stabilizes your eye, the INTEGRAL GUIDANCE System takes over.
First, a unique Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) system visualizes the surface of the eye. The system then maps the surfaces and creates “safety zones.” Dr. Haas will then customize the treatment based on the unique layout of your eye, using information from more than 10,000 high-resolution A-scans that the CATALYS® system performs.
Next, the lasers, which operate at an astonishing rate of less than 600 femtoseconds, will deliver pulses at the precise locations necessary, mindful of the safety zones created earlier.
The end result is a procedure that automates the most technically demanding steps of the cataract procedure, which means more precise results. The greater the precision, the greater the comfort to you.
Wrap-up
When it comes to laser cataract surgery, precision matters because your comfort matters. That’s why Dr. Haas is so excited about the CATALYS® Precision Laser System, a technological marvel, which will deliver unprecedented results for you.
